Twilight.

So I decided to talk about Twilight since we most recently had a debate about it, well actually I got shut down by people saying how Vampires are not real or can't go out in the sunlight or what not and that they were missing key parts of the book in the movie. Well what I have to say to that is one...its a fictional book so that means its fake and two if they added everything in the book it would probably be a four hour movie. Also the little details like the color of the house, personally I don't think gain much relevance since the movie isn't about the "white" house. Also I think that the books are better than the movies because you can use your own imagination but I thought that the movie wasn't that bad. Granted, there were some parts that were very cheesy but how else are you going to get the point accross..i mean really it's about vampires not eating people? I don't know if guys appreciate Edward Cullen as much as girls do but I thought he espeically played a very good role and was perfect for this film. You have to be a little drastic when your a vampire that doesn't eat people. So in conclusion I would recommend reading the book first and then going to the movie just to put a visual on everything and I don't know if you'd like the movie or appreciate it as much if you didn't read the book first. I've seen the movie three times and still love it and my opinion won't change on it whatsoever :)

Rambles..Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

When we first started watching Eternal Sunshine Of the Spotless Mind my first reaction was what the hell are we watching? Some crazy lady with blue hair and bad roots was erasing her " depressed, mopy" boyfriend from her mind because he was boring and not fun ( good reason to erase someone). I pretty much turned off my radar to watching it at all and was concentrating more on my math homework or taking a nap. But to my surprise I actually got really into the movie. I have to admit at first, I didn't like it at all because it gave no backround information about anything and movies like that really frusterated me because I have no idea what is going on and just kinda had to go with the flow. I also have to admit that I am not a " go with the flow kinda person", there has to be structure. Also this movie was one you really had to pay attention to. I remember watching Oceans eleven and having to re-watch scenes and pratcically the entire movie because I had no idea what happened, you really had to watch every detail in order for it to all come through in the end. But in the end I really thought this movie was good and really weird at the same time. One thing that I wanted to know more of is how could someone ever come up with a story like this? Who thinks of someone erasing someone from their mind and then they meet all over again like nothing ever happened? Crazy.

I didn't know they made movies this long...

So, I was really excited to start our Western film watching because i've always been interested in them and curious but I don't think I've ever actually seen one. I have to admit when we first started watching Stagecoach I was not impressed at all what-so-ever. I found myself falling asleep at that movie, I have no idea why? Maybe because it was in black and white or I just thought it was boring. But when we got to pick our western film to watch I was really excited to find one and watch it. I chose Dances with Wolves. Which is about a soldier ( Kevin Costner) who meets a Sioux tribe while out on the frontier and long story short becomes one of them. Though I thought that the movie was going to be a " normal " length I was very wrong and found myself watching this movie from 5:30-9 and I still wasn't done. But I think the reason I really liked this movie was because it was romantic and it had action in it. I really liked that there were multiple conflicts in it and that it was atleast I thought all about finding yourself and your own happiness. Also to go aganist what everyone else thought was the "right thing" to do. Kevin Costner went against pretty much "white" people and became one of the Sioux Indians. To me it was just really interesting to watch and see how he slowly progressed throughout the entire movie. I also really like the scenery and the costumes..It secretly made me almost want to be an Indian from back then to wear all of the cool dresses and beautiful jewerly. I thought that the landscaping was especially unique because it was something that i've never seen before. I would for sure recommend theis movie to anyone if they like action and romance and rebellion all in one and....if they are able to sit through a almost four hour movie.

Body Heat- Critque the critic

Though it was hard to find a " bad" review on the movie Body heat. I thought I would find a critic that was different from Roger Ebert to see what they had to say about the film. The critic I chose was Dave Kehr. While looking through rotton tomatoes I knew it would be hard to find a review other than amazing, torrid, wonderful, and brilliant, but I decided to look anyway..and got no luck. What really amazed me and caught my attention was the way Kehr described the director ( Lawrence Kasdan) directing "his images have a dark, overripe poetry that his pastiche dialogue definitely does not". When reading this I never thought that films could be at all related to poetry in any way but now when he talks about it being poetic it kinda starts to make sense. I think that this movie really helped make some things clearer that we were talking about in class. For example the lighting, in the movie the lighting was always dark and really focusing on one object like Matty's ( Kathleen Turners) white dress in the first scene that she is shown in. Also the different camera angles, a lot of steadicam, crane and long takes and shorts. But what really stuck out to me was the lighting, it was very low key lighting to create a stronger contrast and sharper, darker shadows where you see extremely dark and light regions with tehe same frame. An example of this is what I said earlier with Matty's white dress.
In my personal opinion I really didn't like this movie at first. I found it really confusing to understand whats going on because the director gave no backround information about the characters in the begining. The first scene is Ned (William Turner) in a hotel room looking out the window smoking some cigarette with some woman. I had no idea what this movie was about or what was going on. Also you really had to pay attention to all the deatil that was said. For example when we find out that Matty changes her cigarettes to the kid that Ned smokes really doesn't make any sense when it actually happens but later on in the film everything clicks together, so that made it kind of frusterating for me. But after watching the movie and especially the ending I really liked it. I almost wanted to re-watch it so I could pin point everything I missed that all came together at the end. I don't think I would agree with Dave Kehr and Roger Ebert that it is one of the best movies of all time but it was very interesting to wach a movie that was made so long ago and go out of my so called " comfort zone" of watching movies that just come out in theatres.

Introduction- Something related to Film.

I don't have favorite movies because I am a very indecisive person. I really like romantic movies with some action in them. Also some comedy movies depending on my mood. Some movies that I enjoy watching are; The notebook, Erin Brocavich, Tristian and Isolde, Cinderella story, Disturbia, Wedding crashers, and Sex and the city. Sometimes I think movies are better as books because the movie leaves out a bunch of detail such as the sisterhood of the traveling pants. One movie that I cannot wait to come out is the Twilight movie because I read all four books over the summer and the movie comes out in Novemeber. I saw previews for it and cannot wait.
